This week, two sex offenders with local connections have been in the news. One is former Sheffield resident Derek Warren Logue (who calls himself a sex offender advocate) after he was allowed to return to Twitter. We place Logue in the Badly Bent category. Twenty years ago, Logue admitted to physical contact with an 11 year-old girl. It was a crime of opportunity and sheer idiocy. We doubt that Logue will ever reoffend, but his danger lies in attempts to abolish the national sex offender registry. Badly bent isn't broken.
Then we have Gerald Winston Surratt, aka Gerry. While not convicted of his sex crimes, he has had several arrests. Until recently he had been in the state prison system on theft charges. Denied parole last June, he has now for reasons unknown been released to offend again. Gerry is not just bent, he's totally broken.
We believe Surratt is a danger to society, and so does the mother of one of his victims. She's started a petition to have the local bad boy's release terminated. You can access it here; please sign:
