Someone once told us he couldn't distinguish Andy Betterton from Bill Griffin. We'll just leave the jokes about identical pants size right there, but obviously most voters wouldn't have problems distinguishing District 6 representative Jimmy Oliver from either Betterton or Griffin...and not just from their waist measurements.
Mr. Oliver is not afraid to stand for his principals. Yes, we have from time to time seen both Betterton and Griffin take a stand. Betterton once preached against Ag Center land being incorporated into the city and supported the relocation of the Confederate monument, but ultimately caved on both issues. While a school board member, Griffin did stand up to city school land usurper Kenneth Kitts...for the most part. For that we commend him; we merely wish he had taken an even stronger stance on the issue.
Mr. Oliver? In the past, Jimmy has not been hesitant to tell now city department head Brian Murphy not to bite the hand that feeds him. We believe we can count on Oliver to not simply go with the flow.
And what of other current council members or concerned individuals? We look forward to what the next 12 to 18 months will bring.

Hi, I'm Slater. Don't you just love that distinguished name? I may be Big Poppa around here, but I'd just love a castle of my own. I'm a two year-old male Lab mix. Come adopt me ASAP at the shelter in the industrial park:
