A few weeks ago there was quite a controversy over two fourth grade Central Elementary teachers' garb for 'Merica Day, part of a weekly dress-up during football season. At that time, we commented not only on the teachers' Trump attire, but also the name of the event as being derogatory to our country.
Some Central supporters commented that Merica/Murica was a good thing. Is it? Google it, and the first entry calls it "rude, condescending, or prejudicial." No, it is NOT a good thing.
We were reminded of that today when we saw an X (Twitter) hashtag for "murica." It's definitely not how we want our country referred to, and certainly not by a Lauderdale County school.
Don't our fourth grade teachers know better?
