Jesse L. Payne, a Lauderdale County husband and father, has been identified as the shooter in an early morning murder/suicide. Payne's father, Ralph L. Payne, has been identified as the 61 year-old victim in the shooting that took place at 325 Sylvan Drive north of Florence. Also shot was Ralph Payne's wife who escaped with minor injuries.
The 34 year-old Jesse's online bio states that he served in the Army infantry for four years. He had attended Wilson High School and Northwest Shoals Community College. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
